WINNING AS A HABIT!

I just spent the weekend at an NRA / Republican / Tea-Party gathering here in Las Vegas. I spoke to and interviewed a few dozen Republicans. I survived it all by drinking loads of Jack Daniels at the conclusion of each day.

Here are a few excerpts from the interviews:

STEVE FORD: Why do you support Mitt Romney?

UN-NAMED REPUBLICAN #1: I think he's a good business man and we need that in the White House.

STEVE FORD: Did you ever read about his time at Bain Capital? Mr. Romney made piles of money by draining all the value out of companies, exporting jobs and laying off hard-working Americans.

UN-NAMED REPUBLICAN #1: Well, he's better than Obama.

STEVE FORD: At what?

UN-NAMED REPUBLICAN #1: I'm just more aligned with Romney's positions and I don't want Obama taking my guns.

STEVE FORD: How can you ever be sure what Romney's policies really are? He changes like the weather and Obama hasn't passed a single law limiting guns. In fact, he's actually passed two laws allowing guns.

UN-NAMED REPUBLICAN #1: Not that "flip-flopper" crap again! Are you liberals ever gonna give that up?

STEVE FORD: John Huntsman called Mitt Romney a perfectly lubricated weather vane and he's a Republican.

UN-NAMED REPUBLICAN #1: Look at unemployment!

STEVE FORD: Unemployment is down to its lowest rate in years. 7.8%.

UN-NAMED REPUBLICAN #1: I just think Obama's weak.

STEVE FORD: I just wanna make sure I understand your position. The man who got Bin Laden, is weak? That's what you're saying? Thank you for your time.

STEVE FORD: Did you hear Romney's 47% Comments?

UN-NAMED REPUBLICAN #2: Did you hear Obama's Clinging To Guns and Religion Comments?

STEVE FORD: I did, but I don't think the two comments are all that similar. Obama wanted those rural votes. Romney said it wasn't his job to worry about half the country. That they are hopeless and they will never take responsibility for their lives.

UN-NAMED REPUBLICAN #2: I believe, he apologized for those remarks.

STEVE FORD: Two weeks later. He initially stood by his remarks, saying he could have stated it better.

UN-NAMED REPUBLICAN #2: Obama ruined our economy, now he wants to keep raising taxes.

STEVE FORD: Obama inherited the worst economy since the Great Depression. He inherited it from George W. Bush. He saved an economy that was on the verge of disaster. He turned our economy completely around and he actually cut taxes on middle class families. Obama just wants wealthier Americans to pay their fair share of taxes. 

UN-NAMED REPUBLICAN #2: You don't really believe that, do you?

STEVE FORD: These are facts, ma'am. Easily verified facts.

UN-NAMED REPUBLICAN #2: How can you support a man that wasn't even born in this country?

STEVE FORD: Obama was born in Hawaii, ma'am. How often do you watch Fox News?

UN-NAMED REPUBLICAN #2: Every night.

STEVE FORD: Do you utilize any other news sources?

UN-NAMED REPUBLICAN #2: I watch CNN and CSPAN some times, but not often. I'm not a racist. I just don't like Obama.

STEVE FORD: I never said you were a racist.

UN-NAMED REPUBLICAN #2: I just wanna be clear. 

STEVE FORD: Thank you for your time.

STEVE FORD: Do you believe President Obama has been respected in the way previous presidents have?

UN-NAMED REPUBLICAN #3: Respected? Why would anybody respect him? He's trying to turn America into a socialist country. Forcing Obama-Care down our throats. Apologizing for America to other countries all the time. 

STEVE FORD: I've never seen him apologize for America and we've had socialized medicine for years. It's called "Medicare" and we have other socialized government services --

UN-NAMED REPUBLICAN #3: Like what?

STEVE FORD: Like the Post Office, Libraries, the Police and Fire Departments --

UN-NAMED REPUBLICAN #3: Oh my God! Don't you love this country?

STEVE FORD: Absolutely. I just can't understand why you love the GOP?

UN-NAMED REPUBLICAN #3:  Republicans are strong on defense, they're fiscally responsible and they keep my taxes low.

STEVE FORD: The Republicans were in office when 9/11 happened and they distracted our troops from Afghanistan and entered us into an illegal war in Iraq. The last 2 Republican administrations increased the debt by several trillion dollars and they both raised taxes on average Americans, while continuing to coddle the rich. 

UN-NAMED REPUBLICAN #3: At least they weren't socialists!

STEVE FORD: How does name-calling make the country better?

UN-NAMED REPUBLICAN #3: Well, they can't force the American people to buy a product. That's unconstitutional!

STEVE FORD: So, you don't have car insurance? You drove here in an uninsured vehicle?

UN-NAMED REPUBLICAN #3: Are you some kinda communist, pinko, or something? This interview's over! You liberals stink to high heaven! I swear to God. Ending "Don't Ask Don't Tell", trying to close Guantanamo Bay, killing babies. God's gonna curse you all. It's a sin. Supporting' gays and letting illegal aliens take over the country. You people don't have a clue! Or you don't give a damn. Why don't you go crawl back under whatever rock you came out from under.

STEVE FORD: Okay...I think I will. Thank you for your time.

Winning is a habit. Unfortunately, so is losing. Barack Obama is a "winner". He's the quintessential over-achiever. Mitt Romney is a good "loser". He's been running for President and losing for years. He's probably running because his father did and because he's bored with playing Monopoly with other people's lives. Mr. Romney was born on Third Base and thinks he hit a triple! How many governor's sons do you know that have horrible lives? He sat out the Civil Rights Movement and the Vietnam War, chillin' on the French Riviera drinking chardonnay or perhaps a little Louis Perdrier circa 1878.

Then when the coast was clear, he crept back to the U.S., went to Harvard and graduated a fully-fledged Finance Capitalist. After cowardly avoiding all the struggles of the sixties and seventies, I'll bet he couldn't wait to come home and start raiding companies.

Mitt Romney is going to lose on November 6th, because it's a habit. Most people, deep down, can sense "winners" and "losers". America knows Obama is a "winner". They also know Mitt Romney is a "loser". Forget about all the Polls and Pundits. If you're sick to death of all the political media going on and on about nothing.
